Children's Privacy Notice
Draft COPPA notice — lawyer review required before public launch.
Last updated: June 2, 2026
1. What we collect from or about a child
- Nickname or preferred first name (we ask you to avoid full legal names).
- Grade level, subjects, language, and learning style.
- Parent-provided learning notes and optional school/curriculum context.
- Tutoring content: chat messages, tutor responses, session history, and homework uploads.
- Limited technical/operational data (e.g., session and security metadata).
2. Why we collect it
We collect this information solely to provide and personalize AI tutoring for the child, show parents progress and history, and operate and secure the service. We practice data minimization: we ask parents not to provide home addresses, phone numbers, birthdays, government IDs, medical or diagnosis details, or other sensitive information the tutor does not need.
3. Verifiable parental consent
We obtain verifiable parental consent before a child's personal information is collected. A parent or guardian must create the account, complete the required consents, and control child access. For paid accounts, consent is further confirmed through the parent's billing relationship. A child cannot self-register, change settings, or make the profile public.
4. How a child's information is shared
We share a child's information only with service providers needed to run the tutoring service (such as hosting, storage, database, and AI response generation), and only the minimum needed. We do not sell child data, show behaviorally targeted ads to children, make child profiles public, or let children contact strangers through Tutor Factory. Billing providers do not receive child tutoring content. See the subprocessor list.
5. AI processing
To generate tutor responses, we send the minimum tutoring context to configured AI providers (such as Anthropic Claude or OpenAI). We aim to use settings that prevent customer content from being used to train provider models where available.
6. Parent rights
As a parent or guardian, you can at any time:
- Review the personal information we have collected from your child.
- Export your child's data.
- Permanently delete your child's data or the entire account.
- Refuse further collection by revoking consent (this may suspend child access).
Use the dashboard privacy controls or contact privacy@tutorfactory.ai. We will not condition a child's participation on collecting more information than is reasonably necessary.
7. Data retention
We retain a child's information only as long as needed to provide tutoring and meet the purposes above, and we delete it on parent request.
8. Contact
For any question or request about your child's privacy, contact our privacy team at privacy@tutorfactory.ai. We will respond to verified parent requests within a reasonable time.
